it's been awhile since i've blogged. guess it's not really the first thing i have in mind after being at school from 8am - 530pm, then having to make dinner, prep for upcoming lessons, check school email, and update the school webpage.
that, ladies and gentlemen, has been my life for the past 3 weeks. i am happy to report that i am officially (and legally, since i received my teaching cert last week in the mail :) ) a K-2 primary teacher!! because my school is out near UBC, i have moved out to the beautiful kitsilano neighborhood with my lovely roomie, who was a former classmate in my program. our place is a 2 bedroom + kitchen+den suite, and is part of a basement of a big kitsilano mansion. very cozy and relaxing to come home to!! and rent is not bad, even on a teacher's salary ;)
on another note, my first week of class went by fairly smooth. i was extremely nervous and worried about what the parents would think of me. afterall, i was fresh out of school, with 3 months of teaching experience and half the school in my hands! they turned out to be kind and supportive though, which was a relief. besides that, i only had one accident, one tantrum, and a few skinned knees in my class the first week of school! although i know teachers shouldn't have favorites, or least favorites, it's hard to control when you've got a couple 5 and 6 year olds from Australia with super cute accents and are super sweet angels. on the other hand, you've got the kid(s) who speak out of turn, yell and shout in the halls, and argue with you as if their lives depended on it...those i will not comment on. :P
my third week of school (in which i only taught for 2 and a half days) ended with a sore throat, cough, and runny nose. my colleagues say its the 'new teacher phase' where you get sick until your body's built up the immunity it needs to fight off children germs!! it's kind of ironic since i read a book to the kids about germ and bacteria infection-prevention just last week... i am such a great teacher.. teaching by example.
anyway, looking forward to the weekend even though i am sick at home at the moment..
sat: lunch with a former classmate, Camp Leaders reunion, then a music concert downtown with my man and his fam.
sun: Church, then probably lunch with the church fellows, and back to kits i go to prep for another week!
